Family Peace Center Turns Ten!
On November 23, 2015, Sojourner opened its doors to the Milwaukee community after moving from Sojourner Truth House from its shelter location off of West Highland and the Task Force on Family Violence from their offices in the Germania Building. The year 2025 holds a special meaning, not only marking the building’s 10th anniversary, but also celebrating Sojourner’s 50th anniversary of serving as a safe, resource-driven community hub for individuals and families affected by domestic violence to achieve safety, justice and well-being.
Sojourner Family Peace Center is the most comprehensive nonprofit provider of domestic violence prevention and intervention services in Wisconsin, serving nearly 10,000 clients each year.
The Family Peace Center not only encompasses Sojourner, but nine other community partners who collectively provide life-saving support and services. The Family Peace Center was built on the goal of holistically responding to the needs of domestic violence survivors by encouraging multi-disciplinary collaboration. After decades of relationship-building and planning, the Family Peace Center (FPC) opened in late 2015 to meet the diverse needs of families impacted by violence in a single co-located facility.
Current partner agencies operating from the FPC include:
Advocate Aurora Health – Provides a health navigator connecting clients to healthcare options and care for sexual assault survivors.
African American Breastfeeding Network – Supports pregnant and postpartum individuals and their babies.
Children’s Wisconsin Behavioral Health Clinic – Offers mental and behavioral health therapy for children.
Children’s Wisconsin Milwaukee Child Advocacy Center – Serves victims of child maltreatment.
Jewish Family Services – Provides therapy and counseling for adult survivors.
Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office, Intimate Partner Violence Unit – Reviews intimate partner violence cases for criminal charging.
Milwaukee Police Department Sensitive Crimes Division – Serves victims of crime.
Milwaukee Public Schools – Provides a social worker to navigate school-related issues for child survivors and their families.
Sojourner – Delivers advocacy, support, and emergency shelter to domestic violence victims.
In ten years, the Family Peace Center has accomplished…
By working together, we can improve the outcomes for survivors and their families, and as we celebrate this milestone, we are incredibly proud to honor the first of many FPC anniversaries to come.
