Peace Brew – Male Domestic Violence Survivors
Thursday, June 12
9:30 - 10:30 AM
Sojourner Family Peace Center
619 W Walnut St, Milwaukee, WI, 53212

Domestic violence is often viewed as a gendered issue, with women representing at least 85% of victims, most often at the hands of male abusers. However, this doesn’t mean that male survivors of domestic violence don’t exist. In fact, domestic violence against men occurs more frequently than many realize, in both heterosexual and same-sex relationships. One in seven men aged 18 and older in the U.S. have experienced severe physical violence by an intimate partner at some point in their life.

Men can face unique challenges when seeking resources for domestic violence and sexual assault. At June’s Peace Brew event, we will discuss these barriers, the stigma male survivors face and ways to remove these obstacles, as well as provide essential resources. Every man who has experienced abuse deserves a judgment-free space where he can heal on his own terms, without shame. It’s vital to listen and believe without judgment to help shift the culture of silence and shame that often keeps men from speaking out about their experiences with abuse.

Please register below. Coffee and refreshments will be served.

Peace Brew is proudly sponsored by Colectivo Coffee! The first 25 participants to attend will receive a free pound of coffee from Colectivo’s special blend chosen specifically for this series.
