milwaukee county domestic violence high risk team annual report 2023

This report summarizes the work of Milwaukee’s Domestic Violence High Risk Team (DVHRT) in 2023. Milwaukee’s DVHRT operates from Sojourner Family Peace Center in Milwaukee, WI. DVHRTs are a recognized best practice by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) for communities to address domestic violence (DV) cases at high-risk for homicide. The DVHRT works to identify DV cases at the highest risk for lethality and craft individualized recommendations for each case that will maximize safety for victims and accountability for offenders. Additionally, Milwaukee’s DVHRT creates an opportunity for victims in staffed cases to provide input on appropriate recommendations for their case.

The economic impact of domestic violence in milwaukee & Wisconsin 2021

Measuring the precise economic impact of domestic violence for Milwaukee County and the State of Wisconsin in 2021 entails estimating total costs in eleven categories: loss of life; lost work productivity; physical health care; mental health care; loss of property; policing costs; criminal court costs; incarceration; civil court costs; domestic violence programs, shelters, and agencies; and volunteer hours. In each category, we estimated the dollar costs using state- and county-level data from Wisconsin, and estimates (for example, loss of workdays per domestic violence incident) from peer-reviewed academic literature. We encourage other states to conduct similar studies as part of a growing focus on domestic violence.
