Survivor spotlight: Candice & Maddie
As 2020 comes to an end, you may be reflecting on what you gave up.
The canceled coffees, cocktail hours, dinner dates, concerts, weekend getaways, graduations, fundraiser galas and more.
You gave it all up, but now you can GIVE IT ALL BACK.
GIVE IT ALL BACK. The cost of the coffees and cocktails you missed, the tips you didn’t leave, the Ubers you didn’t take and the plane tickets or cocktail attire you didn’t purchase.
GIVE IT ALL BACK, this GivingTuesday by supporting local, supporting nonprofits, supporting your community, and most importantly, supporting survivors like Candice and Maddie.*

Survivor spotlight: Monica
Monica is like many domestic violence survivors. Her ex-husband often made her feel as if the abuse was her fault. He would violently lash out and blame her for setting him off. When Monica told her family about the abuse and that she was considering leaving, she didn’t get the support she needed.
“What did you do to make him so angry?” they asked.

Survivor spotlight: Carole's story
Finding employment, independence and support amid COVID-19
One of Sojourner’s partners at the Family Peace Center, Goodwill Industries, works with domestic violence survivors to secure stable employment to help achieve or maintain independence. Goodwill works with employers to find opportunities for survivors and also provides survivors with resume assistance, job search support and interview coaching.
Our partner recently shared a touching story about a Sojourner client who found, then lost a job due to COVID-19. The story, as told by a Goodwill Workforce Connection Consultant, takes an unexpected, yet heart-warming twist:

We stand with you
Recent events have shone a light on the racism and oppression that people of color continue to face in this country. Our hearts go out to our African American clients, partners and staff who have to move through this world in fear.
We must deal directly with the fact that racism and oppression is the ground from which brutality springs. Long-term, institutional racism and oppression is embedded into the very fabric of our lives. The health and well-being of many depend upon our ability to tell the truth and to find the courage to actively change the circumstances in which we live.
